Why We Built This Tiny Home
We began planning this tiny house when rent prices in the Pacific Northwest were climbing fast. We wanted to stop spending so much money on rent while paying off my wife’s student loans.
In September 2015, we bought the trailer and started building. I designed the house myself using my drafting background, then completed the build in about eight months. I handled most of the construction, while my dad helped with the electrical and plumbing. My wife took care of much of the painting.
Sadly, we never had the chance to live in it. Soon after my wife graduated, she accepted her dream job in Las Vegas. Since the cost of living there was much more manageable, we stored the tiny house near my parents. We are now selling it to help pay down student debt and give someone else the chance to enjoy it.
Tiny House Size and Trailer Details
The home sits on a triple-axle trailer rated at 7,000 pounds per axle. The trailer has new tires, a Washington title, and has been towed twice without trouble. One move was completed with a large commercial truck, and the other with a Ford F-350 diesel equipped with airbags.
The house weighs just under 15,000 pounds and measures slightly more than 320 square feet when both lofts are included.

The incinerating toilet means there is no black-water tank. Gray water can be collected in a portable tank, directed to a suitable drainage area, or reused where local rules allow.
A 100-pound propane tank supplies the water heater, while a separate 40-pound tank serves the furnace and stove.
Creative Storage and Cat-Friendly Features
This tiny home has plenty of character. The stairs were made from vintage advertising crates, the bathroom storage came from an old school, and the sliding barn door was built from reclaimed wood. Beetle-kill pine gives the siding and ceiling a warm, natural look.
We also designed the house around our two cats. The ladder beside the bathroom doubles as a cat climbing system, letting cats jump from level to level before reaching the storage loft. One of the long windows above the sofa has an extra-wide ledge that works as a catwalk between spaces.
Other practical touches include USB outlets near the sofa and bed, a two-way bedroom light switch at the top and bottom of the stairs, and room for a seven-foot sofa in the living area.

Selling this custom tiny house is difficult because we designed every part around our lifestyle. Even though we never got to call it home, we hope it goes to someone who will appreciate its craftsmanship, comfort, storage, and personality.
